Pilot Training

Texas State Technical College Marshall and Bayou Aviation have partnered to help East Texans of all ages discover the wild blue yonder. In order to serve the region, the college and the aviation company joined to provide courses that can ultimately lead to a commercial flight program.

TSTC Corporate College can now offer Aircraft Pilot Training with ground school instruction for new pilots. The ground school, located on the college campus, offers instruction on flight planning and navigation, aerodynamics, air traffic control, and weather theory and forecasting - all required knowledge to be a safe, competent pilot. The 8 week Private Pilot Ground School course costs $360, which includes the cost of a private pilot kit.

Pilot training consists of both ground school training and flight training. Flight training is scheduled on an individual basis and is hosted by Bayou Aviation, located at the Harrison County Airport in Marshall, Texas. In pilot training, new trainees learn to handle the airplane in a variety of situations, take-offs, turns, climbs, descents, and landing. Private Pilot Flight training begins with the minimum 40 hour course leading to a private pilot's certificate. Courses can then be taken in instrument flight and commercial flight. Also, available on request, is a Pinch-Hitter Course - designed for non-pilots who fly often in small aircraft and wish to gain basic skills to enhance their enjoyment and safety.
