Who - What - When - Where You may have several questions about Texas State Technical College as you evaluate higher education opportunities. Among your concerns may be cost, safety and perhaps most importantly, what opportunities are available to our graduates. Is the SAT or ACT required to get into TSTC? No. The SAT or ACT tests are not required to gain entrance into TSTC however, test scores from the SAT or ACT may be used for placement. Students are required by the state of Texas to take the Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA) or a test equivalent to the THEA test prior to registering for classes. THEA info page. How much is tuition at TSTC? TSTC offers a highly marketable education at a competitive price. Admission Advisors can supply an estimated cost analysis for a specific program as well as the current tuition rate. Average tuition and fees for 12 hours is approximately $1,135.00 per semester. Does TSTC have a payment plan? Yes. TSTC requires that payment of half of the tuition and fees per semester is paid upon registration, and the balance can be divided into two payments. For more information, go to the methods of payment page. When do classes begin at TSTC? TSTC is on the semester system with three semesters per year. Terms begin in September, January and May of each year. For specific dates visit our TSTC Marshall calendar. Does TSTC offer Financial Aid? Yes. Several types of financial aid are available for qualified applicants. However, eligibility criteria for aid vary for each program. Types of financial aid available at TSTC include the Federal Pell Grant Program, Federal Supplement Educational Opportunity Grant Program, Federal Work-Study Program, Texas Work-Study Program, TEXAS Grant Program, TEXAS II Grant Program, Subsidized Stafford Loans, Unsubsidized Stafford Loans, Parent Loans, and various scholarships. Enrolling at TSTC introduces students to a unique learning atmosphere. The college maintains a strong relationship with private industry, and our technical education is designed to produce highly marketable graduates. TSTC students receive more than the usual classroom instruction. Typically, students spend up to 60 percent of their class time working in laboratories equipped with full-size, industry-standard equipment. When companies are looking for new employees, they know TSTC graduates will have the advantage of hands-on experience before the job begins. Full-time TSTC students receive instruction in classes and laboratories 20-30 hours per week. This intense approach helps students develop good study skills and marketable work habits. TSTC's learning process has demands not unlike those that graduates will face in the workplace. Is campus housing available? Yes. Most college students say they learn and grow as much by living on campus as they do by attending classes. The living environment at TSTC gives you opportunities for social interaction, interpersonal relationships and cultural activities. Residential living is an important component of your total development as a student. We encourage you to join in residential living and enlarge your experience through human relationships, new ideas and cultural diversity. Students may take off during the summer to work, However, their program will continue to progress. We encourage students to check with the Department Chair or advisor as each program is different. TSTC programs are very intense and taking a semester off may interrupt the student's degree or certificate cycle. Does TSTC provide services for students with disabilities? Yes. Disabled Student Services page. How safe is the TSTC campus area? Many students will be leaving home for the first time to begin college. Naturally, safety is a concern. TSTC has its own Public Safety Department with commissioned, full-time law enforcement officers. Law enforcement officers patrol campus, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Based on latest available placement statistics information, the average starting salary for a TSTC graduate with an associate of applied science degree is over $30,000 a year. We are confident about our educational process. Graduates earning an associate's of applied science degree should be prepared to meet or exceed entry-level industry standard salaries. Does TSTC guarantee students/graduates jobs upon graduation? TSTC is committed to assisting students in securing jobs. TSTC boasts a placement rate of more than 90 percent following a student's graduation.
